Art on the Rocks unveils 2009 Poster – Sunrise Monolith by Tom Buchkoe

In celebration of the 51th annual Art on the Rocks, which will be held at the Mattson Lower Harbor Park, the 2009 Committee was unanimous in choosing this very creative photo of the nearby ore dock. Tom Buchkoe worked very hard to get this shot, which can only be seen twice a year as the sun rises through the ore dock. Tom went there twice a year for three years before getting this perfect shot which he aptly named SUNRISE MONOLITH.

Tom is a Marquette native, received a BA in Art from St. Johns University, and started exhibiting in Art on the Rocks in 1971 while still in college. Tom and his wife, Barbara, live in Marquette where he has been a full time professional photographer since 1973, receiving many awards for excellence in his craft over the years.

These posters will be available at the LSAA tent at the art show, July 25 & 26th for $10 each. However, prior to the show they are available for $12 at Superior View in Marquette

Who We Are
LSAA, Inc. is a nonprofit, volunteer organization whose mission is to promote and encourage the development of visual arts and artists in the Marquette County area through programs and services directed toward appreciation and participation in the visual arts. Membership consists of professional and semiprofessional artists, amateur artists and friends of the arts. Annual dues are $15.00, $10.00 for seniors and students, $25.00 for familes or businesses. Members are kept up to date by receiving the newsletter, The KIOSK, four times a year.

Each March, members and the public are offered the opportunity to view a slide show featuring the works from the Transparent Watercolor Society of America's annual exhibition. The presentation, accompanied by commentary of a local artist who has signature status in the national organization, has proven to be popular to painters and appreciators alike.
